27th June – Panel Discussion: Bridging the gap between academia and policy in migration studies

17h – Complexity Science Hub, Metternichgasse 8, 1030, Vienna

Over the past decade, international migration has been at the forefront of political and academic debates worldwide—often sparking polarized responses. Faced with evolving migratory patterns and ageing populations, national governments, international organizations, and researchers all had to adapt their understanding and approaches. At the same time, the need to develop constructive dialogue with each other has grown increasingly important.

This panel brings together voices from policy and research to explore lessons learnt, recent developments, and opportunities for stronger collaboration between academia and policymakers.

The panel will be composed by Mag. Peter Webinger, Director of the Migration and International Affairs Department at the Austrian Federal Ministry of the Interior; Ljubica Nedelkoska, Research Scientist at Central European University and the Complexity Science Hub; and Ivona Zakoska Todorovska, Europe Coordinator for the Displacement Tracking Matrix at the International Organization for Migration.
